Topic > Analysis of Violence in a Tale of Two Cities - 1137

Madame Defarge, who is the leader of the peasant women, harbors a spiteful hatred towards the Monique, which led to the thought of killing Lucie Darnay and Charles Darnay who are having an affair with Monique. His thoughts and actions represent that violence and fury controlled most of the peasants. The angry peasants also used the guillotine as an equipment to kill not only guilty people but also some innocent people who portray the violence and disbelief of the leader of the revolution. At the storming of the Bastille, the peasants express their anger by killing the Bastille guard and the nobility who treated them to bed, although they cut off their heads and hung them under the lamp, which indicated the violence and madness of the peasants. The violence and fury of the leaders and peasants has led to a failed revolution, as they are not only dealing with foreign armies, but also enemies at home.
