Topic > Effects of Partition of Colonial India into Two States

This is a sensitive issue and a topic to focus on in this discussion. India, as a British colony, has suffered centuries of excessive exploitation by its colonial masters and since gaining independence has tried desperately, but unsuccessfully, to come to terms with the impact of this exotic presence of foreigners in their beloved country, which perhaps was diametrically opposed to their culture and temperament. However it should be noted that this Western culture has spread aggressively across the world and as much as Indians resisted it, they eventually had to embrace it as it is an inevitable consequence. For effective decolonization to take place, we must look carefully at the consequences of colonization, what traces have been left on the Indian nation and its people, and how deeply this scourge and vice is affecting their lives. In this regard, I have briefly attempted to focus on the effects of the split of colonial India into two states, namely Pakistan and India. This is because this is a very sensitive, vast and complex issue as the Indian nation and millions of people have suffered and died as a result of the agreement which led to the division of this once diverse, prosperous and peaceful nation. The ripples of animosity between these nations are still present today and lead to tensions between the nations and its citizens. Neighboring nations have also been affected by the disputes between these nations which have led to tensions, conflicts and deterioration of relations between them. Great Britain, a superpower in the seventeenth century, had the vision and purpose to extend and enhance its reputation throughout the world and so set out to build its ever-growing empire and assert its authority over the relatively virgin lands and municipalities...... middle of paper ...... a springboard to make their feelings known, and subsequently blamed the opposition for their difficulties and troubles. • Other reasons: Extremist groups have attacked individuals of different religious affiliations under the guise of retaliation for the killing of innocent individuals. As the world realised, the partition of India left a bad taste in the mouths of the British they helped handle the situation much better. However, they pursued their own interests and, having done so, left this nation amidst the destruction and civil war that befell it. All that was good and pleasant in this nation, the small gains made have gone up in smoke with these riots. These nations, India and Pakistan, have not been able to resolve their differences to date and are almost on the verge of going to war with each other..
