One form of constant monitoring in 1984 is through telescreens. The main character Winston is closely observed while he is part of the outer group and works at the Ministry of Truth. Even in the comfort of his home, Winston has no privacy, just like no one else in all of Oceania. The party hides numerous microphones throughout the city to report any disloyalty to Big Brother. The party has also mastered psychological manipulation to disable people's minds to think for themselves. The party also bluntly advertises that "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU", scrutinizing the people of Oceania (SparkNotes Editors). The party managed to organize a small team of children known as the Junior Spies by brainwashing them for the purpose of further espionage. In Huxley's Brave New World the surveillance is completely different from that of 1984 in the way the surveillance is done through people rather than devices. In the Brave New World people are conditioned (brainwashed) before "birth" and therefore their image of their world is perfection.
