Scientists have deduced that “low self-esteem is a thought disorder whereby an individual views himself or herself as inadequate, unlovable, and/or incompetent” ( “Low Self Esteem: Facts and Statistics – Building Self-Esteem.”) Young adults with dyslexia see constant failure and frustration which leads them to see themselves as broken or defective; furthermore, constant criticism from their peers, as well as additional pressure from adults. You diagnose a teenager with dyslexia, you help their self-esteem grow. It is proven that "A dyslexia tutor can help a child understand what dyslexia is and that there is no limit to what child can achieve in life" ("Dyslexia and Self-Esteem Issues"). As the adolescent begins to see progress and success, self-esteem will slowly begin to grow. The higher their self-esteem, the more confidence they will have to face the world head on. Therefore, by diagnosing a young adult with dyslexia you can provide mentorship to help them and raise their self-esteem to the point where they believe there is a bright future ahead of them.
