Topic > Analysis of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner - 1082

INTRODUCTION TO THE REPORT The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was first announced to the public in January 2003 with an approximate cost of five billion dollars, as sales of the aircraft were high si expected to enter commercial service during 2008, but the construction of the aircraft seemed earlier than expected, since the management decided to use composite materials as an alternative to traditional metals since composite materials are lighter, stronger, more economical and also resistant to a wide variety of chemicals including acid rain and Since these are the conditions in which metals suffer, Boeing has also shared with suppliers its opinions on the development of aircraft, realizing a project much more anticipated than expected. More than three years later, after the project had exceeded its estimated budget, the 787 finally entered commercial service in September 2011. REPORT SUMMARY One of the most noteworthy crucial choices Boeing made in the 787 project identified with outsourcing. In reality, Boeing had composed and manufactured the vast majority of its plane's parts. For the 787 company it was decided to proceed further towards a model of joining the structures. In the combined model, Boeing could partner with outside suppliers around the world who could help plan, produce and supply segments of the plane. These parts could be transported to Boeing production lines in the United States and assembled in the last item. On paper, the choice to act as a "framework integrator" instead of a producer had been won. It spreads the danger and shifts expenses to suppliers while reducing Boeing's required undertaking....... middle of paper ...... h all expenses included. Challenge in overseeing and embedding massive change in model delivery and development.REFERENCES1. Boeing Commercial Airplanes: Why Projects Fail. 2014.
