Welcome to this presentation on behavior and leadership. Many details about the various personality types of leaders will be discussed during this presentation. Some styles may be familiar, others may not. There are many styles of leaders, and this presentation focuses on comparing and contrasting four different styles. The final recommendation for an organization choosing a leadership style is to allow employees to have input on what they prefer – this could increase retention rates. Four main types of leadership behaviors and personalities will be covered during this presentation. These four types are relationship-oriented versus task-oriented and emotional intelligence versus cognitive intelligence. The relationship-oriented leader (ROL) likes to get to know team members very well, including their most emotional traits. The ROL is very helpful to team members and is the type of leader most likely to help the team with tasks when they are overwhelmed. These types of leaders firmly believe that every worker has the drive to achieve goals and some may have been damaged by previous leaders to the point that they just need to be shown the correct care. ROLs have an open door policy and love to communicate their values. They believe that all team members must be on the same page to operate successfully. ROL excels at aligning new team members into existing teams. This type of leader is service-oriented, meaning they put the team's needs before their own and expect team members to want to be trusted. The ROL's moral personality makes team members easily trust them (Dubrin, 2010). Task-related leaders' concern shifts away from the person and toward the task most of the time. A task-bound leader has a tendency to look down on people who have less strength than others. These types of leaders can quickly assess team members' weaknesses, probably too quickly for a team member to feel they have a chance to express themselves, with the full intention of displaying a good personality. Employees with many weaknesses in relation to tasks will be supervised much more than stronger employees: both types of team members will be given frequent feedback on how well they are performing the tasks. These types of leaders like to be innovative in designing electronics and devices that can help team members perform their tasks with ease and efficiency.
