Andy, the protagonist of the story, is labeled by most as a bad person because he wears a real jacket. He makes the wrong choice and joins the gang, but realizes it too late. This led Andy to have conflicts between society, people and himself. In the story, Andy is seen as someone else and not his true self. Andy had conflicts with other people and it hurt him. He had been stabbed ten minutes ago. “This is for you, Royal!” (Soccer player). The boy who stabbed Andy was part of a group called the Guardians. The Guardians and the Royals are groups that hate each other. They see all the royals as the same person and don't see the person under the jacket. This means that the guy who stabbed Andy, stabbed him because he was part of the Royals and not like Andy. Him also lying on the ground and his jacket next to him made people not help him. The policeman took the jacket and turned it over in his hands. “A royal, huh?” (Soccer player). This shows that people won't help him because he is royalty. They don't feel the slightest pity because he was wearing a royal jacket and the policeman thinks Andy is like all the other royals. Andy has discovered that society hates him because he is part of the Royals. First a drunk person found Andy, he is too drunk to do anything but smile and say things. "What's up, buddy?" The man smiled. (Soccer player). This shows that people in the community don't want to help Andy but they smile about it. That's because Andy was part of the Royals and that's another disadvantage. Freddie, is part of the Guardians and won't help him because Andy was royalty. "I don't know. I don't want to get involved in this. He's royalty. If we help him, the Guardians will be on our backs." (Soccer player). This shows that society hates royals so much that they won't help even one even if they are dying. Towards the end of the story, Andy realizes too late that he has made the wrong choice. Andy has arguments in his head about the positives and negatives of being a royal. I'm Andy, he shouted without saying a word, I'm Andy. (Soccer player). In that moment, Andy realizes who he really is. He realizes that people notice that Royals is just a label for the company and nothing more. Andy found that if he hadn't been wearing the jacket he wouldn't have gotten hurt. Throughout the novel, one conflict leads to another and this causes Andy to come into conflict with society, people and himself. Andy was stabbed because he was wearing a Royals jacket. People didn't want to help him because they thought all royals were bad people. This causes Andy to find out that Royals is just a label and people don't see that he is Andy.
