It's 10:25 am as I sit in my local coffee shop, the sound of rock music plays faintly in the background and the smell of brewed coffee fills the air room. A line of people begins to form as conversations and laughter fill the silence that was once here. The waiter brings a cappuccino to my table and greets me with a smile. His contagious smiles make me smile as the warmth of the hot cup radiates through my body. Surrounded by so many distractions and noises, the eco-friendly cup enchants me and captures my attention. As I take a sip and begin to analyze it, the liquid fuel begins to run its course and the neuronal sparks awaken the creative genius. I quickly begin filling out a series of questions. Why did they choose these colors? Why print the store name on the mug? Why this specific character style? It is in this very moment, as I sit here confidently analyzing the packaging, that I know I want to earn a Master's Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. Say no to plagiarism. I immediately begin to think back to my teenage years and how I struggled to make decisions due to the fear of failure. It all started when family and friends asked, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" I've struggled with this question for a long time; the trepidation of finding myself in the abyss of not knowing what I want. I've never understood how people can choose a career path and be perfectly okay with their decision for the rest of their lives. I wanted to be an actor, a lawyer, a doctor, a human resources manager. My father told me that if I wanted to be successful I had to choose a career and stick with it. His words caused me a lot of uncertainty and doubt growing up. It wasn't until I was in college that I realized I had a choice. I decided that I would find the courage to make changes in my personal and professional life. I couldn't let my father's mindset and fear of failure stop me from exploring new opportunities. At the beginning of my second year of college I took a leap of faith and started taking different courses jumping from one major to another to learn about different fields. I finally found my passion when I took a creative strategy course and immediately knew I wanted to pursue a career in marketing and communications. The course made me think like a journalist, a marketer, an advertiser and a CEO. I realized how a communications degree would have multifaceted roles that fascinated me. My drive to succeed and goal-oriented nature are some of my strongest qualities. While in college, I researched, planned, and set strategic goals to help me achieve my goals. While my professional experience in marketing communications is still expanding, it is my passion and drive that motivates me to excel. Georgetown's prestigious national reputation is matched only by its infamous academic rigor. This rigor, however, does not discourage me but rather encourages me to participate. I have always been able to juggle multiple tasks at once. I maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college while working both a full-time and part-time job. My ability to quickly learn from mistakes is why I'm no longer afraid of failure. I have come to understand that it is okay to fail, it is inevitable; 9%.
