Topic > Important lessons worth learning to become a successful entrepreneur

Nowadays, due to the social media we follow almost every day and the pages we like, share and read while browsing the Internet, many quotes will appear and flash before our eyes to make us think about many topics that are happening around the world. One of the major trending topics we usually come across is “Entrepreneurship”. One way or another, quotes influence our unconscious and make us think differently every now and then. For me, finding the courage to leave the great job I had and start my MBA at IE was reading Helen Keller's quote “Security is mostly a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Whether we want to get a job after our MBA or not, everyone ultimately wants to have their own business and become a successful entrepreneur. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay The metrics for measuring a successful entrepreneur that I had in mind are related to financial satisfaction in life. Yet, reading the book enlightened my eyes on something that we sometimes forget, which is enjoying the journey following our dreams and trying to make money. Money is a great measure of success, but investing your time with people is much more appealing. As Randy said: “Of course, business was about money. That's what makes it a business. But to be successful, first and foremost, business is about people. It took me a while to learn that lesson.” Referring to my experience, I had a project manager who once told me: “leading a team is like an orchestra conductor, he must unite the performers, give time and create harmony”. Which conforms to the concept “leadership is an art”. The author robustly explores the benefits of delegating tasks to other people to help the company grow. The author also advises entrepreneurs to give people the freedom to do what is necessary for the company. This way, they will feel more encouraged to exceed their own expectations and will be more inspired to improve and work together in harmony. Lenny is that entrepreneur eager to bring his business to market. He definitely has amazing ideas about what he wants his business to be, but I assume he didn't have the skills to be an entrepreneur. It was obvious that Lenny was confident in his entrepreneurial approach and business proposition, but in his opinion the foundation of the first business idea was missing. Lenny had the mindset of any unskilled entrepreneur working to achieve the financial goals of his business. From the idea that he presented to Randy and that he wants to carry everything forward without the support of others. He apparently thinks that he shouldn't rely on anyone and that he should be in control of everything in his affairs. Which is a wrong impression and brings us back to the original idea that he should enjoy the journey towards achieving job satisfaction. He presented an ambitious plan to Randy. Instead Randy is willing to help him. This is because, as an established entrepreneur, he believes it is essential to pass on his experience to others who wish to become entrepreneurs. Randy listened to Lenny because he wanted him to talk out loud about the potential monetary rewards and focus on satisfaction afterward. Additionally, Randy has provided much guidance, contacts and leadership to entrepreneurs in need of experience like Lenny. Randy enjoys helping potential entrepreneurs in the early stage of business development and then becoming a consultant. Randy's main advice to Lenny wasthat a leader with many ideas but without vision and passion will lead the company to failure. Lenny's opportunity was amazing as it offers him to engage in activities that will bring him satisfaction. You have been exposed to an opportunity that will not only promise financial rewards but also job satisfaction. It also offers Lenny a great opportunity to get involved in a business venture for the right reasons. By seeking help from people advanced in entrepreneurship, Lenny learned a lot about other aspects of business. Randy provided Lenny with advice that focused on the characteristics of CEOs during different phases of the establishment. This helped Lenny understand the difference between being a good manager or a good leader. As is known and quoted in many places, “If management is a science, leadership is an art.” Noting that management and leadership build on each other as both skills are a prerequisite for anyone wanting to start any type of business. Lenny was fortunate to learn that the essence of entrepreneurship is that the entrepreneur must enjoy all phases of life. It is very important not to limit workers from achieving satisfaction at all levels. As an entrepreneur, it is a must to embark on an irrational and passionate journey with people who are ready to face all adversities. By sharing ideas with other experienced people, an entrepreneur will be able to improve his first goals. The author mentioned two concepts: "The differentiated life plan" and "The whole life plan". The first divided life into two distinct parts: “Do what you have to do to do what you want to do.” While the second concept comes to life as a unique piece. The whole life plan suggests that we need to work hard and invest in the most important resource, “Time”, that we have to bring completeness and happiness. Technically I think the two planes are aligned with each other. This is because in order to work hard and with passion, you have to do what you have to do to do what you want to do. This is similar to a concept our PMP instructor gave us: “You have to plan the plan before you plan the plan.” Therefore, we can say that deferred life plan is like a plan to plan our entire life plan. The author also started with a deferred life plan before arriving at the life plan. Among the millions of things we do every day that don't satisfy us, we might find one thing we are truly passionate about. For me, my childhood dream and passion was to become a pilot in the Lebanese Air Force like my father. But as he grew up, he discovered how difficult it was to be financially content by joining the military. That's why I started my deferred life plan and chose to become an engineer, which led me to my first professional experience in Saudi Arabia as a mechanical engineer on a large project where I encountered many challenges that lit up my eyes towards management in 2015 and it was then when I decided that I wanted to do my MBA, and then I started a new journey to change my career, knowing what my whole life plan will be. Being a successful entrepreneur, while being a leader and working with passion. There is also another aspect that an entrepreneur should have. The willingness to fly alone and think outside the box and, above all, knowing how to defend your ideas in front of people. This is because people hate change and usually discussing a new idea with them will be a waste of time. Probably for now I haven't had the opportunity to become an entrepreneur but in the future as mentioned before, it is everyone's dream to become an entrepreneur at a certain stage in their life. As for me, when I snowboard I always go off the slope”.
